A journal for the moment beneath the goal.
Every goal comes from somewhere. You get out of breath on the stairs and think: I need to move more. You snap at someone you love and think: I don’t want to be this tired anymore. Beneath is for that moment — written down while it’s still true.
Everything you write is free, forever. iPhone and iPad.
The practice
Write it down while it’s true.
A Truth is that moment, in your own words — what happened, and what it made you see. Not the goal; the thing underneath it. The only prompt is one question.
“Got winded carrying the groceries up one flight. I’m not old — I’ve just stopped moving. I want to be the dad who runs.” A Truth · Room: Health
- A fragment counts. Write the part you have. A few honest sentences, captured while they’re still warm.
- Add Wins when something goes the way you wanted — the evidence that it’s happening.
- Rooms, not systems. Group what matters into Rooms — Health, Work, Family, or whatever fits your life. No blueprint, no correct way to organize a life.
- Empty is normal. No streaks, no scores, no feed. Beneath never nags and never initiates.
The mirror
When you want to look back, Beneath pays attention.
Only when you ask. It summarizes, notices themes, and asks questions. It doesn’t diagnose, prescribe, or run on a schedule you didn’t choose.
Patterns across what you’ve written
A short, written observation of what keeps coming up — across a Room, or everything — whenever you want to look.
One small thing
Something to act on or think about right now, drawn from your own words. Not advice from the internet — a suggestion from you.
A quiet look back
Each week, month, and year, written up for every Room and for your life as a whole. They arrive silently and wait until you’re curious.
